Dance

On 23 March 2020, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the first lockdown in the UK. Since then children have experienced the ups and downs of lockdown including the lengthy closures of schools.

When children finally returned to a more certain school life on 8 March 2021, their normally rich curriculum was still constrained by COVID-19 regulations operating throughout the UK.

Realising the historical and educational significance of this moment in children’s lives, Roger Ascham Primary School collaborated with New Adventures and Sadler’s Wells Theatre to create a dance video response project.

The project was designed to support children in two ways: participants would reap the benefits of attending dance workshops and have an opportunity to tell their own version of the coronavirus story.

The following film is a digital expression of the children’s creative response to themes inspired by this unprecedented time, using movement to capture and reflect on their feelings and emotions.

Thanks to the goodwill and hard work of all those involved this dance video project was completed in early July 2021. Well done all, well done children!
