Governance & Finance
Welcome to our Governors’ section.
What we do
The Local Governing Body operate as a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees who have overall responsibility for the governance of both schools in RAY Academy Trust. The Trustees have delegated responsibility for the governance of our school's performance, its curriculum and the culture of Roger Ascham to the Local Governing Body of our school. School Governors are responsible for the strategic direction of the school and for maintaining high educational standards. We are involved in developing school policies, the admissions procedure, recruitment, agreeing the school’s budget and improvement plan, setting targets and monitoring school performance.
Are you interested in joining the Governing Body?
Whenever a vacancy becomes available, we welcome new volunteers to the Governing Body. Parent Governors are elected by parents; community governors are invited to join the governing body by the Members of the Academy Trust.
We formally meet twice each term and there are also other visits and meetings that you will have the opportunity to attend. The local authority provide support and training for school governors. We are particularly interested in anyone who has professional skills that they can share with the Governing Body. Please contact the school office if you are interested in becoming one of the governors at Roger Ascham Primary.
Who we are
We are a group of volunteers including parents, staff and the local community. We meet 6 times a year to support and challenge the Headteacher. Together we make decisions that contribute to the effective leadership and development of the school.
Several of the current governors, including our Community Governors, are parents of pupils or ex-pupils at the school.
A table describing the level of delegation and the Governing Body's specific responsibilities is included below.
The school's accounts are audited and published as part of RAY Academy Trust and can be viewed on the Trust's website.
