Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
Our PSHE curriculum will prepare children for life and learning inside and outside of the classroom. We will help pupils to be the best they can be by supporting them to develop confidence, resilience and responsibility. Through developing an understanding of themselves and others, children will learn to be safe, responsible citizens and contribute positively to a changing world.
PSHE lessons teach the attributes of learning and living responsibly through experiential learning. For example, when learning about resilience, children might try to draw a picture; hear constructive criticism of their drawing; then try again. This process might be repeated several times so that each child can produce the best drawing of which they are capable. Children will have the opportunity to reflect upon their own and others’ responses to the challenges and benefits of this process throughout the lesson.
The lessons are only the starting point for the children. We believe in lifelong learning. As such, all of our staff will model and develop their own habits of learning and responsible citizenship. The language and practice of PSHE learning will be used throughout the school. Assemblies, problem solving in the playground and learning in lessons across the curriculum will be contextualised within the school’s expectation that children at Roger Ascham will be the best they can be.
