FRAPS - Friends of Roger Ascham
What is FRAPS?
FRAPS stands for ‘Friends of Roger Ascham Primary School’. We are a small group of parents and carers across each year group who work closely with the school to organise events, bring the community together and raise money to help support the school with extra curricular activities.
Our Aims
-
Build a warm and welcoming school community and help to break down barriers between parents, teachers, and pupils.
-
Create a friendly network for parents, teachers and pupils to support one another.
-
Create fun family-friendly events for the school community
-
Raise money to help support areas that school budgets can't cover.
Our Recent Community Projects
Friendship benches
Many children at Roger Ascham enjoyed reading the story ‘The Friendship Bench’ about a girl called Tilly who moved to a new school and was nervous about meeting new friends. Her teacher suggested she try the friendship bench and she soon met Flint who joined her on the bench and became her new best friend.
Joining a new school, whether you are 4 or 11, can be daunting so Roger Ascham decided to create their own friendship benches in the Infant and Junior playgrounds. Children from each year group came and painted the benches in fun colours for everyone to enjoy.
Building a new sensory garden and Roger’s Rangers growing project
Roger’s Rangers is an initiative to work with the whole school to raise awareness, care for and love our local school environment.
In 2023/2024 FRAPS worked with every child in school to grow a flower from seed. The local community donated plant pots and other equipment and we built a school greenhouse.
Over 15 varieties and 450 seedlings and bulbs were grown and every class took part in an interactive lesson on the lifecycle of plants - dressing up as sunflowers and understanding the importance of pollinators.
A plant sale raised funds that allowed us to build out a small sensory garden - a previously unloved corner of the school grounds. We now have a dedicated gardening area, outdoor sensory space and a place to continue outdoor learning.
Our wonderful team of volunteers helped build the shed, paint benches, run lessons and donated equipment.

Joining FRAPS
We operate on a very informal basis as we are aware of how tricky it can be to fit extra hours into working lives – but if you are interested in finding out more about joining the FRAPS committee contact us on: FRAPS@rapsch.co.uk
Becoming a Volunteer
If being an official committee member feels like too much of a commitment, then we have an incredible group of volunteers who simply help out whenever they can, from sorting second-hand uniform, to running a stall at one our school fairs.
If you are interested in joining FRAPS or just want to let us know you can help out now and again – please email us and we can add your contact details to our system: FRAPS@rapsch.co.uk
