Vision & Values
We are proud to serve our local community, providing children with the best possible start to their education: one that will serve them now and equip them for success throughout the rest of their lives. Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
Our school is a place of hard work, high achievement and respect for ourselves and for one another. We recognise and celebrate our differences and we understand that being different does not mean being better or worse than anyone else. All children at Roger Ascham learn to be fully aware of their rights as young people while equally respecting the rights of others.
Children succeed in school when they enjoy their learning. We seek to make their time at Roger Ascham richly rewarding but also happy and memorable. We aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and values required for them to take their places in the world and to succeed. We provide our pupils with a rich and exciting curriculum.
The essential skills of English and mathematics are at the heart of this curriculum, alongside opportunities for children to develop as social beings; to think and solve problems for themselves and to apply what they have learned to their growing understanding of the real world around them.
Thoughtful behaviour and hard work are encouraged and pupils' achievements are recognised and celebrated.
Our school rules are consistent and most importantly, fair. They were written by pupils and teachers together.
Our school rules are a vital part of our school’s ethos; they are important and easy to remember: |
- Listen to whoever is talking to you;
- Think about your learning and the way you behave;
- Care about yourself, the school and those around you;
- Try each day to be the best you can be.
Adults act as positive role models for our pupils; they demonstrate and help develop the behaviours and interactions that encourage pupils to increase their self-awareness and self-responsibility.
On this page I have tried to describe our school ethos in writing. In reality it is demonstrated far more effectively by the children and adults in our school as they work, learn and interact together every day. Ask any child at Roger Ascham why they come to school and they will answer: ‘To learn!’
Everything we do contributes to our school’s purpose:
Encourage children to think for themselves; guide them towards acting in the best interests of us all.
